As I briefly mentioned in a previous post, I am originally from Quebec. And because of that, I grew up with traditional Quebec poutines as a pretty regular part of my childhood/adolescence. So for me, whenever I go home to visit my family, (my sisters and) I usually end up getting one. And as it doesn’t happen often – maybe once every 3-4 months, it is completely acceptable. This is what I advocate to my clients at least. No one’s diet is perfect (and when I say diet, I mean “what you eat on a regular day-to-day basis”). That when we restrict ourselves too much of the things that we enjoy, whether treats or comfort foods, when we get access to them again, we will most likely binge on them and therefore overeat them. Which tends to lead to feelings of guilt and shame. Why not just appreciate the foods for what they are and accept the idea that IT’S OK to eat them. That IT’S OK to enjoy them. The important point to remember here is to try and find some BALANCE with what you eat and to LISTEN to your body.
If you end up having a poutine, balance out the rest of your day with maybe some heathier foods (i.e. fruits and vegetables, good proteins…) and do your best to not overdo it. This means slow the eating down, taste/enjoy the food and once you start to feel that you are satisfied and feeling the just beginning of fullness stop eating. Yes, the food is delicious and yes, I know you want to eat it all, but be #mindful, meaning being more aware and in the moment, of how you are feeling and stop eating. You can always eat the rest as leftovers the next day!
That’s exactly what we do with our poutines now. And you know what? We physically feel better that night and enjoy our #leftovers just as much the following day!

½ package (600 g) of frozen strawberries (or any frozen fruit that you like)...
1 container (250 g) plain 2-4% MF Greek Yogurt
1 tsp vanilla (pure or artificial)
1 tablespoon maple syrup
Put all your ingredients in your blender, blend and enjoy! If your blender isn’t high powered, let the fruit defrost for 10-15 minutes. Serves 4.
