I must apologize everyone, for I missed one of my weekly posts last week as I was under the weather. Has it ever happened to you when you get all the cold symptoms under the sun? Well, that’s exactly what happened to me and let me tell you it wasn’t fun. When one has a cold and sore throat all you want is comfort food. And to me comfort food is soup. A nice, hot, steamy bowl of homemade soup – not the stuff premade. If you have no option, then it works, but it just doesn’t taste them same does it. But you might say that soup is too hard to make! I’m here to say that it really isn’t that hard and no it doesn’t take that long to make either.
Here are a few tips on how to make homemade soup and ensure that it’s tasty!
- Yes, boiling the bones of any carcass would be ideal to make your own homemade broth, but when you’re sick, you won’t be taking the time to do so. So unless you already have some ready in the freezer, I suggest using a premade broth
- Sauté the vegetables first in the pot before adding the liquid. This can add some much needed flavour to your soup!
- Don’t forget to add in some extra herbs and spices! Even adding a dash of thyme, oregano and rosemary, along with some salt and pepper can help give your soup that “homey” taste
- Consider sprinkling on some grated cheese as a final touch! I like doing this as it can add another dose of flavour to the bowl. Yum!
