What is it? According to Merriam-Webster, the definition is love of self or a regard for one’s own happiness or advantage.
Especially at this time of year, we tend to forget about ourselves and focus on the holidays and everyone else’s joy, happiness and expectations. So let’s stop forgetting about ourselves and take some time out for yourself this holiday season! Here are a few strategies that you can pick from: 1 – Start to let things go: When we hold on to things in the past, it can hurt us more than we realize. 2 – Do things you love: This is extremely important. When we start to connect with ourselves by doing things/activities we love to do, that is self-love. 3 – Self-kindness: Talking to ourselves kindly and treating ourselves with kindness is all about self-love. We are kind to our friends and family, why not do the same to ourselves? 4 – Question your negative self-talk: I’ve mentioned this in a past post, when we think negatively about ourselves, it can bring us down. Instead challenge this and use your self-talk to encourage yourself! 5 – Practice good self-care: Self-care looks different to different people. When you treat yourself with care, you are showing yourself love. Self-care can be doing healthy activities, good nutrition, exercise, proper sleep and having healthy social interactions. These are just a few options. I suggest to pick one and try to practice it on a daily basis. Do you practice any self-love?
